WWDC 2022: What's new in UIKit

Productivity improvements #

New navigation bar styles have been introduced in order to support desktop class toolbar capabilities.

The bar button items displayed in the center of the navigation bar can be easily reordered by dragging to and from the items popup.

The side-by-side mode also takes this reorganization into account when need be.



Find replace #

Easily activated by a flag for UIKit views, this iOS 16 new feature aims at handling only text between views and documents that abide by this design.

Edit menu #

The UIMenuController is now deprecated to give way to the new UIEditMenuInteraction class that displays different context menus according to their activation.

New features including the Sendable protocol conformance for some types get rid of former compiler warnings dealing with dispatch between the MainActor and custom actors.

Stage Manager #

This iOS 16 new feature gives rise to the concept of having an app that doesn't belong to the main screen and thus adapting the way to pick up information about the interface.
